Here’s my homage to the Shane Hurlbut, ASC memes 🙏

The goal was to create some water-like texture on the cyc and the ol’ mylar bounce worked great! The reflective qualities of mylar gel with small undulations made for some really interesting shapes in the background.

We clamped the shiny silver gel to a piece of 4x8 foam core and placed a small fan below to give the light some movement. Used 4K HMIs through some CTB and bingo 🌊🌊🌊

It’s a simple gag but worked well for our needs. Swipe to check out some bts of it in action.

Would have been cool to use a moving stage light with rotating gobos for the pattern, but it just wasn’t that kind of job 😉

We used two @aputure.lighting Nova 300s for our key lights. We chose the Novas for their full color capabilities, wireless control, and form factor. They lived on 20’ menace arms to be easier to roll around on the stage (rather than in the grid) so the smaller size was a huge consideration. They were modified with Chimera soft boxes and shaped with some solids and nets on the ground.

Aputure is having a Black Friday sale November 20th (today!!) through the 30th. 30% off your favorite lights! They’re even doing bundle deals if you’re looking to buy a bunch of stuff. How neat is that.
