Shooting anything at high speed in a studio can be challenging- calculating the light needed for a proper exposure in a large space and controlling spill to maintain the blackness of "the void" can be tough enough on their own. Add in a running dog and manual focus and you have yourself a really fun time!
Our prep work paid off and we were able to roll into the location with a solid plan of attack. What could have been an entire day of setup and shooting was condensed into half a day total.
We used two Litepanels Gemini's to backlight the dog and snow. Two Joker 800's in the back left were being aimed at an array of silver reflectors to bounce light into the dog's face. A Joker 200 with a Chimera Pancake Lantern was used for a more defined catchlight in our subject's eyes. Our exposure was lifted a little from below with a 12x12 muslin covered in 30 gallons of fake snow.
Another fun project with Director of Photography, Jon Hamblin.
